Our AOG course is a nine day program that can launch you right into assisting on multi day sea kayak expeditions! Starting with foundational skills that'll train you to become proficient at making safe responsible decisions. You will learn how to deal with dynamic situations and camp in spectacular places while embracing challenging West Coast conditions.
Whether you want to work as a professional kayak guide or enhance your knowledge and skills for yourself and community this program is right up your surge channel!
On this course we will become proficient paddlers in strokes, rescues techniques, navigation, group management, communication and camp craft. In addition we will practice leadership scenarios with dynamics situations, surf landings/launches and paddling in ocean swells. Get stoked on learning about weather, tides & currents, environmental + cultural awareness and getting amongst it while learning from our observations and experiences!
Learning can begin once fully paid and registered for our program. You will be given access to our online campus which will ensure that you have the baseline theoretical knowledge prior to the practical part of the course.
- All camping and membership fees are included in this course
- Transportation not included
- Camping gear is not provided unless rented.
- Kayaks/Immersion/Paddle Equipment available to rent
First four days, food will be your own responsibility
Last five days meals will be a shared responsibility in which we will assign meals one week prior to the course.
Requirements to obtain SKGABC Certification
*You may fulfill these requirements before or after taking our AOG Course
Assistant Overnight Guide: Certified as per Level 1 guide, plus may assist a Level Two or Three guide on overnight trips in Class 1, 2, and 3 waters. An AOG in direct communication with a Mothership Vessel may independently lead day trips in Class 2 waters only after logging 30 days assisting with another guide.
- 40 hour (five day) Wilderness First Aid or equivalent
- CPR ticket (level C)
- Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) for VHF radio
